Life on the Farm: Advent Students at The Farm School
Fifth and Sixth Graders have been busy exploring the science and social systems behind the food we eat—connecting biology, geography, and human stories. What better way to deepen their learning than with a stay at a real farm?
Codebreakers! Engaging Enrichment
In the Codebreakers enrichment class, our youngest students became detectives, using curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking to crack a case brought to them by visitors from the Boston Police Department.
Math Moments
At The Advent School, math is both a creative exploration and a structured discipline. Grounded in the belief that children are natural problem-solvers and meaning-makers, Advent’s math curriculum blends the rigor of Everyday Mathematics—developed by the University of Chicago—with the Reggio Emilia philosophy of inquiry, collaboration, and hands-on discovery.
The “Why” behind wellness
The Community Day of Wellness is a celebration of mindfulness, movement, and connection, where students, families, and community members engage with practices rooted in yoga philosophy. The annual event also reinforces student leadership, community engagement, the use of public city space as a classroom, and the yogic principles of connection, service (seva), and awareness.
Two Months In
As I’ve settled in as Interim Head at Advent, I’ve spoken to over sixty teachers, staff, parents, former parents, and school leaders, and I’ve been struck both by the forthrightness of everyone I’ve met with and by the strong commitment of all members of the Advent family.
