Welcome to the Advent Community Association!
The Advent Community Association, also known as the CA, is the community-building volunteer group within the Advent School. It includes parents, caregivers, and champions of Advent.
Taking inspiration from the “piazza” in Reggio Emilia, Italy, the Community Association aims to be the place where our community partners, participates, gathers, and grows. Like the “piazza” or public square, it is a democratic space for dialogue, encounters, and relationship building. Advent's Community Association keeps the school mission’s at its center. Its physical space, image, and essence are synonymous with events and gatherings, relationship-building, and support of the school community.
About the Tile Project
The Community Association — formerly known as the Advent Piazza — emerged amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a dedicated space for adults to actively participate in the ongoing daily social justice initiatives within our classrooms.
In March 2021, a year into the pandemic, the tile project began as a way for families to establish their presence within the school, even in their physical absence. Each family was given a blank tile, an array of paints, and an invitation to unleash their creativity. These tiles became canvases for families to depict symbols representing their unique identities. In the images on this page, you'll see the vibrant tiles crafted by Advent families.
Subsequently, these painted tiles were carefully collected and transported offsite for firing. A custom frame was constructed, and the tiles were installed at the entrance of 15 Brimmer Street.
The tiles are a vivid testament to the diversity that defines the Advent community.
