Music Teacher

The Advent School, located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, serves 130 students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. A mission-driven school founded on the principles of social justice, Advent has supported the students and families of Boston since 1961. Position Overview

The Advent School seeks a Music Teacher who brings creativity, curiosity, and strong pedagogical knowledge to our vibrant learning community. Grounded in principles of social justice and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the Advent music program values inquiry, collaboration, and joyful exploration.

Responsibilities & Duties

The Music Teacher will:

  • Foster a love of music through playful movement, instrument exploration, and the development of foundational musical concepts

  • Teach students across both the Brimmer and West Cedar Street campuses

  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and specialist colleagues to support an integrated, thematic curriculum rooted in social justice

  • Design curriculum that weaves core music competencies with grade-level themes and contemporary issues

  • Communicate regularly with families through weekly updates and twice-yearly progress reports, and partner with them to support each child’s growth

In addition, the Music Teacher will coordinate and lead key school-wide performances, including:

  • Winter Concert

  • Sixth Grade Spring Musical

  • Graduation

Through these culminating experiences, the Music Teacher plays a central role in helping students build confidence, creativity, and performance skills.

Required Skills & Characteristics

The Advent School seeks educators who are deeply committed to equity and social justice in education. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strong content knowledge and pedagogical skill in music education

  • Familiarity with, or interest in, the Reggio Emilia approach

  • Experience with thematic or project-based learning and differentiated instruction

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching or related experience (independent or public school settings)

  • Advanced degree preferred

Position Details & Benefits

This is a 0.75 FTE (three-quarter time) position, with the option to expand to full-time through additional administrative responsibilities. The Advent School offers a competitive benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, a retirement plan, professional development opportunities, and paid time off.

Salary between $45,000 - $60,000.
