Employment

The Advent School employs two teachers in every classroom, Early Childhood through Sixth Grade. Specialists teach Art, Library, Music, Physical Education, Science, and Spanish. The Advent School’s administrative team includes Admission, Business, and Development officers.

For teaching candidates it is preferred that they have a Masters Degrees and a minimum of two to three years experience in a school with a comparable program, but a Bachelor’s Degree is sufficient for application. We expect teachers to be competent at curriculum design and current in the teaching of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Teachers at Advent are collaborative members of a learning community, who are expected to participate actively in professional development and the documentation of student learning.

Professional Development

The Advent School has a state-of-the-art Professional Development Model, now in its sixth year of implementation. It is based upon a four-step plan that clearly articulates criteria for teaching at each level. Teachers are expected to take responsibility for moving up within the model, proposing a specific plan to get there, and working with the Head of School on the process.

Both the Head of School and the Assistant Head of School guide teachers on their professional goals, conduct observations, and provide opportunities to attend and offer workshops.

“I would like to say thank you to my teachers and my peers for making me want to come to school each morning.”
