About Us

Welcome to The Advent School. Since 1961 we have provided an outstanding education, grounded in the principles of social justice. At Advent, we believe that teaching children within a meaningful historical, cultural, or environmental context builds confident students who seek out connections within their learning.

In the heart of Boston, within our two adjoining brownstones, children from our Early Childhood Center through Sixth Grade are actively engaged in mastering their skills. Our classrooms, including a newly designed Earth Lab, Library, and Music room are light-filled spaces that foster dialogue and encourage learners to cross the boundaries between subject areas. The Advent School draws upon the city’s historic, cultural and natural resources. From the Museum of Science to the Freedom Trail, Advent School students recognize the benefits of learning in the city.

Using the thematic approach, students explore all subjects under the umbrella of a theme. We teach children to think critically and apply their skills in Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Science, History, and Geography. The Arts play a major role in our program, while technology is the vehicle through which students learn to research and represent their understanding.

With two highly skilled teachers in each classroom, we know our students well. Children work in small groups led by teachers whose focus is to deepen each student’s understanding.

With a diverse population of students, each child brings his or her distinct heritage, direct experience, and talents to the learning environment. Our classrooms foster collaboration, and children learn with and from one another.

We take pride in our graduates. More than 60% go on to Boston Latin School or Academy and the vast majority are accepted at the schools of their choice. They are school leaders moved to take action consistent with their beliefs.

“I would like to say thank you to my teachers and my peers for making me want to come to school each morning.”
