The Advent School Early Childhood Center (ECC) offers a program inspired by the innovative approach of Italy’s Reggio Emilia pre-schools, where children learn to become reflective problem solvers at a young age. In keeping with the philosophy of our elementary program, teachers integrate all areas of the curriculum and encourage in-depth learning experiences.
In the ECC, a small class of students comes together in a nurturing, collaborative environment within the context of our elementary school setting. ECC teachers design learning experiences that are responsive to student interests and involve exploration and expression through the arts.
Recognizing that children naturally make connections, ECC teachers help their students develop and sustain in-depth learning experiences and provide space for projects to emerge and evolve over time.

Our Kindergarten program is also informed by the Reggio Emilia Approach. Living Inclusive and Sustainable Lives is the overarching Kindergarten theme, which links studies of literacy, mathematics, science, and diverse cultures. Through direct instruction and discovery, children learn their essential skills. High quality literature, non-fiction books, math manipulatives, and objects from nature are just a few of the elements that inspire our Kindergarteners. Teachers challenge their students to think deeply and generate theories within and beyond the thematic context.
