Advent Leads Neighborhood Art Effort For T's Red Line Station
This January when renovations to the MBTA’s Charles St/MGH Red Line are finally completed, commuters will experience something more than a gleaming new T station. They will also be treated to a 20-by-20 foot three-dimensional sculpture created by Advent students along with many other members of the Beacon Hill community.
The work, to be made of plexiglass, metal, wood, and recycled and found objects, will be named “Local Art ~ Global Art: Be the Change You Wish to See,” and is the brainchild of Jaime Bard, Advent’s new Director of Admission and Community, and Red Line commuter. Advent teachers and staff will oversee the project to bring continuity to the work, but the intent is to make it as much a community effort as possible.
“We want the end product to be a success, but we also want the process to be a huge success. It is about creating connections, kid to kid, neighborhood to neighborhood,” says Bard.
Open workshops for the work’s creation will be held at the Beacon Hill Street Fair on September 17 and later in the Fall on the Boston Common. Advent is looking for materials and volunteers, and anyone who would like to contribute should call Jaime Bard at 617.742.0520, ext. 11.
