Math
The Advent School Math curriculum is rooted in the standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The curriculum is further enhanced by study units developed at TERC, a Cambridge research center, and its Investigations in Number, Data, and Space.
We teach our students to explore problems in depth, and teachers challenge students by presenting investigations that require in-depth thinking and making connections to other fields of study.
Each unit of study invites students to examine mathematical ideas while deepening their understanding of computation, geometry, measurement, graphing, fractions, percents, and more.
We encourage our students to estimate and recognize that there are often many solutions to a given problem. Collaborating with one another, Advent students learn to express their understanding both verbally and in writing. Together they work with a variety of mathematical materials and methods as they develop strategies and investigate relationships within our number system.
