Science & Technology

Our Science curriculum, driven by the Massachusetts State Frameworks, invites children to explore and experiment in the areas of life, earth, environmental, and physical sciences. Our two science teachers, one a naturalist, the other trained in the physical sciences, have designed a program that begins in the Early Childhood Center and continues through Sixth Grade.

Through first-hand discovery, children learn to observe, hypothesize, collect and organize data. Each student becomes adept at designing simple experiments, identifying changes and recording their observations. They learn to safely use laboratory techniques and implement scientific methodology.

From our city location, we have access extraordinary museum resources and natural sites. In partnership with the museums, teachers dovetail instructional program with contemporary exhibits. Our proximity to the Museum of Science enables frequent visits by Advent students, making the museum and its vast resources an extension of our classrooms. We believe that helping to create young scientists and teaching children to be caretakers of their environment is critical to life-long learning and preserving the Earth.

"My child, who had no previous interest in the subject, now considers Science her favorite class and is determined to become an animal scientist. After a couple years at Advent, she seems to know far more than I do about the natural world."
