Diversity
The Advent School is passionate about and passionately committed to social justice and diversity. Because these are central tenets of the school’s Mission, an Advent education is about all people and for all people. Our curriculum integrates intensive studies of civilizations, cultures, and contemporary issues. Learning about life on every continent and listening to the voices of all peoples, Advent students respect different points of view and practice social-action skills within an academic framework.
Believing that our world needs courageous leaders, we help children to understand their role in building a “preferable” future, teaching them to challenge injustice and inequities. Teachers model positive values and perseverance, while training students to express themselves.
The Advent School is, first and foremost, a school where we care deeply about children, and we teach them to care for and about one another. Our teachers help students to develop a positive sense of self. We recognize that a child’s heritage, language, family structure, and experiences have an enormous impact on a child’s learning, and we are sensitive to the differences among us.
In our classrooms, children study cultures from around the world and learn to embrace the diversity its people. At every grade level, children experience multiple perspectives, exploring issues of sustainability and civil rights, among others. As they depart for Middle School, Advent graduates feel empowered and have the confidence to work for social change.
In Admission, we strive to ensure a student body that is richly diverse in ethnicity, socio-economic and religious backgrounds, family structure, and learning styles. In our hiring, we seek the same—a faculty and staff that reflects the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the cityscape that is Boston.
In all aspects of life at The Advent School, we seek to create a community unified in its respect for one another, as we teach our children to build a better world.
