Application Process

To apply, or find out more information, call the Admission Office at 617.742.0520, ext. 20, or submit the inquiry form provided to receive a viewbook and an application.

Schedule a tour of classes with a parent guide

Tours, led by current parents, run from late September through early January, daily at 9:00 a.m. and last approximately one hour. You may also visit the School during one of our Open Houses in the fall (see below). We encourage all parents to visit the School; we believe a visit to Advent enables parents to learn about the school community firsthand. Please call Elizabeth Parfit, Director of Admission, at 617.742.0250, ext. 20, to make an appointment.

Attend an Open House

This year Admission Open House events will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and Sunday, November 14, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Attend a Prospective Parent Neighborhood Coffee

These informal gatherings are held at the homes of current Advent families to give prospective parents additional opportunities to learn about Advent from current parents, Advent faculty, and the Head of School. For more information on the times and locations, please contact the Admission Office.

Complete an application

The completed application with the nonrefundable fee of $50 are due by January 15, 2011. Beginning the application process well in advance of the deadline assures flexibility in scheduling the required appointments. Applications received after January 15 are considered if space becomes available.

Attend a parent interview

The Admission Office will call you to schedule an informal conversation once your application has been received. This interview is an opportunity for parents to learn more about Advent and for the School to learn about the applicant.

Complete a teacher evaluation form

Return a completed teacher evaluation form to Advent by January 25, 2011. Copies of the form can be downloaded from the Association of Independent Schools of New England website at: http://www.aisne.org/services_resources/reports.html and are also available through the Admission Office. Please make sure to use the form that corresponds with the appropriate entry grade for your child.

Attend the appropriate Admission Day event

Early Childhood Center, Kindergarten, and First Grade applicants come for a group visit in late January or early February. During this visit our teachers and learning specialists have an opportunity to observe each child, while children become familiar with our school. Parents meet nearby with the Head of School for open conversation.

Applicants for Grades Two through Six spend a full day at the School during individual visits. This classroom visit, along with individual work with a learning specialist during the visit, and the report from a current teacher enable us to determine whether Advent is an appropriate placement for the applicant.

“Our son blossomed during his year in the ECC. We were thrilled by the individualized attention and guidance he received. The focus on social and emotional growth, as well as skill development, was terrific. It was a joy to see him bounding into the classroom every day, before he even took off his coat--he couldn’t wait to see everyone and dive into the day’s adventures.”
